Nicole Lounsbery, LPC, PhD

Hello there! I have been a licensed professional counselor for 25 years, time flies when you are having fun! Over the course of my career, I have worked with adults, children, and adolescents in various residential and outpatient settings. I have additional experience working in both elementary and secondary schools.  I transferred to higher education in 2008, spending the last 18 years at South Dakota State University. During my time there, I have held positions in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the Graduate School, where I have since worked for the last 14 years and currently serve as Director.

My approach is client centered, CBT, and solution focused; the client is at the center of the therapeutic process, recognizing that they are experts on their own experiences and have the capacity for growth and change while challenging them through skill building that fits their needs. Through empathy, acceptance, and a safe, nonjudgmental relationship, therapy creates space for clients to discover their own strengths, insight, and ability to make meaningful change. Let’s get to work!
